Current Trends in Management of Cerebral Palsy

The Apolinario Mabini Rehabilitation Center of UST Hospital conducted a postgraduate course and workshop entitled, “Cerebral Palsy: Current Trends in Management” last December 9. 2018 held at the CME Auditorium of St. Martin De Porres Building, University of Santo Tomas. The course was spearheaded by the department chair, Dr. Ricardo Agbayani, with Dr. Belinda Fidel as the course director. Dr. Ma. Theresa De Leon headed the scientific committee. Topics included the diagnosis of cerebral palsy as discussed by Dr. Rosalina De Sagun; the differential diagnosis of cerebral palsy lectured by Dr. Jack Alexander Herrin, and precautionary measures in cerebral palsy by Dr. Antonia Moral Valencia. Orthopedic issues in CP was discussed by Dr. Teresita Altre. Workshops were likewise conducted regarding splinting, proper nutrition, neurodevelopmental techniques, and ultrasound guided botox injection.

Nine CPD units were granted for Medicine graduates, 11.5 units for Physical Therapy participants, and 11 units for Occupational Therapists. A total of 251 participants attended the program, with 33 of them being physicians, 69 occupational therapists, 139 physical therapists, and 10 students.
